The Manitoba provincial government has joined the ranks of organizations banning the TicTok platform from employee devices.
While it notes that it believes social media is an effective tool for reaching out to Manitobans, it cites concerns that it can only be done in a secure way.
The province’s move follows a similar recent ban by the Canadian government.
The news release for Manitoba notes the ban is a precautionary measure. Concerns have been voiced that the app collects data, especially from mobile devices, and makes them susceptible to surveillance.
The ban takes effect on Monday, March 6, 2023.
