Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement about an approaching winter storm that could dump up to 20 cm of snow over the next couple of days in Winnipeg
The storm will begin overnight into Wednesday morning as rain mixed with snow. As the ground temperatures drop the precipitation will turn to snow and begin to accumulate through Thursday.
The national forecaster says that by Friday Winnipeg will see 10 to 20 cm of the white stuff but areas in Western Manitoba and in the Parklands region could see double that amount.
Manitobans are being advised to avoid travel during the storm. If you must travel let people know your route and destination and carry an emergency kit in your vehicle. It is also a good idea to make sure your cell phone is charged and with you on your trip.
Visibility and road conditions can diminish quickly in blowing snow especially in open areas.
