The Winnipeg Police Service recently began an investigation into ticket scalping involving the upcoming Tragically Hip concert scheduled for August 5, 2016 at the MTS Centre.
Officers, working in an undercover capacity, met with two unrelated sellers after responding to advertisements for tickets posted online. In both situations, pairs of floor seat tickets were offered for an amount substantially greater than their original face value.
A 30 year-old male and a 31 year-old female, both from Winnipeg, were arrested on August 3, 2016 for their alleged involvement. Both accused were issued Provincial Offence Notices for breach of the Amusement Act and subsequently released.
It is against the law in Manitoba to sell tickets to events above the original price paid for the ticket.
