Throne Speech had no Surprises –
As you may have seen from the Speech from the Throne on Monday it didn’t contain any surprises but did reiterate the promises the Tories made during the election.
A review of government spending, setting up a committee to reduce “red tape”, reducing wait times in hospitals and working with first nations were some of the key points the speech touched on.
The speech delivered by Lt. Governor Janice Filmon also indicated that the government would be looking at measures to improve the economy by enlisting the help of business leaders to advise the premier.
The PC’s will introduce legislation that will end the “Vote Tax”subsidy, Protect Children through the sharing of information with stakeholders like Child and Family Service Agencies and Police, Require referendums for major tax increases and requirements for a secret ballot vote in workplaces considering unionizing.
There are also promises to improve literacy programs in schools, boost tourism marketing and develop a Manitoba approach to dealing with climate change.
