Three youth arrested after threatening and assaulting four victims

Three youth have been arrested by policies connect to four violent incidents on Sunday, March 28, 2021.

Police say the youth confronted a male in his 40s and threatened to shoot him while he was walking in the lane between Elgin Avenue and William avenue near Tecumseh Street. The youth ordered the man to turn over his money to avoid being shot but the victim replied he had no money and pushed past the youth. Police say the man was pushed to the ground and his sunglasses were stolen.

Officers recover the glasses and met with the victim who had walked to the nearby Health Sciences Centre for medical treatment.

A second incident occurred within an hour of the first near Ross Avenue and Tecumseh Street. Police say a man in his 30s was confronted by the youth who demanded money and the man’s duffel bag. The victim explained he did not have any money. The victim was knocked to the ground and assaulted before the suspect stole his bag. The victim was treated in hospital for head and upper-body injuries.

Between the first and second incidents, a third incident occurred but it was not reported to police until later in the day. A woman in her 60s was walking to her car after finishing work when she was confronted on Ross Avenue. One of the youth threatened to shoot her for walking in the area then made a sexually suggestive comment to the woman. A man who witnessed the confrontation intervened and drove the woman to her parked car. The youth threw objects at the man’s truck as he drove the woman to her vehicle.

A fourth incident happened when a male in his 30s left a drug store on Sherbrook Street. The suspect began following and demanded money or his backpack. The male fled after the suspects threatened to stab him. The victim ran to a nearby home where he was let in. Police say the suspects followed the man and threw an object through the from window of the residence causing about $3,000 in damage.

Police were able to locate the suspects around 11:15 am in a Notre Dame Avenue parking lot and place them under arrest.

The youth aged 12, 13 and 14 have been charged for their alleged involvement with three counts of robbery, two counts of Assault with a Weapon, Break & Enter & Commit Robbery and Mischief Under $5,000. One of the accused was also charged with Possess Weapon.

All three suspect were released on Undertakings and will appear in court in June.
