Three taken to hospital from Marion Street apartment fire

Winnipeg Fire paramedic Service say that 15 people were assessed at the sceneof a fire on Marion Street on Friday morning, October 21, 2022, with three of them taken to hospital – one in critical condition and two in unstable condition.

Firefighters were called to a fire in an apartment building in the 100 block around 6:15 am.

When crews arrived they found heavy smoke inside the building and a second alarm was called in due to safety concerns with a structure of that size. A second alarm increases the number of firefighters and equipment available at the scene.

An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 7:53 am.

The damage from the fire was contained to one floor but other areas of the building suffered significant water and smoke damage.

Officials say that it is not known at this time how many suites were impacted or how many residents will be displaced. Staff from Manitoba Housing are working with those impacted to arrange for alternate accommodations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
