Three people injured in Highway 1 collision

Three people have been taken to hospital after a collision on Highway 1 at the intersection of Highway 5 on Monday afternoon, July 31, 2023. This is the same intersection that saw a mass casualty collision on June 15, 2023.

Collision on Trans-Canada Highway Claims 15 Lives, Injures 10 Others

Police say that when officers arrived on the scene shortly before 5:00 pm they found three vehicles involved. The investigation indicates that a southbound pickup truck on Highway 5 entered the intersection and collided with an eastbound SUV. The impact pushed the vehicles into a third vehicle that was waiting at a stop sign on Highway 5, south of Highway 1.

Two people were taken to a local hospital while a third person was transported to Winnipeg for medical care. Police say that the injuries appear serious but report that there are no fatalities.

“We very much appreciate that this may be extraordinarily upsetting for some people considering the recent mass casualty collision at the same intersection,” said Inspector Lee Fortin of RCMP West District. “This is very early in this investigation and we need to do our work to confirm information and determine what happened. We will provide updates as soon as we are able. We urge anyone who is triggered by this incident to seek appropriate supports.”

The area around the crash site will be closed until police have completed their investigation.
