UPDATED
RCMP in Portage la Prairie are looking for three suspects in connection to a home invasion and robbery that happened in the early morning of January 17, 2022.
Police were called to a home on 3rd Street NE around 3:55 am for the report of a break-in and robbery. Officers learned during the investigation the three males had entered the home and forced the residents into the basement where they were sprayed with bear spray. The suspects then stole a number of items and fled the home.
Patrols of the area by police did not locate the suspects but they were able to locate a firearm in a nearby yard.
Investigators were able to identify three suspects and obtained warrants for their arrests.
Maurice Merrick, 29, of Portage La Prairie was arrested on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, for his alleged involvement and charged with
- Robbery with a Firearm x2
- Pointing a Firearm x2
- Break and Enter
- Possession of a Firearm when Possession is Unauthorized x2
- Administer Noxious Substance x2
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose x2
- Weapons Possession Contrary to Order x3
Merrick was detained in custody.
Jordan Chartrand, 27, is wanted for his alleged involvement for
- Robbery with a Firearm x2
- Break and Enter
- Possession of a Firearm when Possession is Unauthorized
- Administer Noxious Substance x2
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Weapons Possession Contrary to Order
Mitchell Hunter, 38, is wanted for his alleged involvement for
- Robbery with a Firearm x2
- Break and Enter
