Three firefighters hurt while battling College Avenue blaze

Three firefighters were injured Tuesday morning, June 14, 2022, while battling a fire in the 300 block of College Avenue.

Crews were called to a vacant one-and-a-half storey house around 8:28 am they found a well-involved fire in the vacant house that was extending to a neighbouring home.

Firefighters launched a defensive attack on the vacant house and an offensive attack on the neighbouring property, with landlines and an aerial ladder truck.

During the operation three firefighters were assessed by on-scene paramedics after being injured. Two of the firefighters were taken to hospital in stable condition but the third was transported in unstable condition.

The vacant house is expected to be a total loss according to city officials. The two-and-a-half second storey home suffered major structural damage.

16 residents of the second home were assisted in finding temporary accommodations by the City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
