Three facing kidnapping charges after an assault and robbery at remote fishing camp

RCMP have charged three adults with a number of offences, including kidnapping in connection to an incident at a remote fishing camp on Monday, June 15, 2020.

According to police three men were at a fishing camp on Kisseynew Lake when a vehicle with three occupants pulled up. Two male from the vehicle got out and asked the males at the camp if they had any firearms.

The suspects then proceeded to assault a 36-year-old male and threaten him with a knife. They then proceeded to steal one of the groups rifles and forced a 20-year-old male into his own truck saying that he was going to drive them to Winnipeg. The suspects then took the cell phones belonging to the two other fishers before leaving and stranding the pair at the camp.

On Tuesday evening the 63-year-old father of the 36-year-old male who had been assaulted showed up at the camp. Once he learned what had happened he drove to the Flin Flon RCMP detachment to report the kidnapping and assault.

RCMP immediately issued a notice to other detachments in the area who began patrols on Highway 10. The subject vehicle was located and officers attempted to stop it. Officers used spike belts on two occasions but the pickup continued on Highway 10 then into a Flin Flon residential area before it came to a stop.

The suspects attempted to flee but officers quickly brought them into custody.

The 20-year-old kidnap victim was located inside the pickup truck unharmed.

Police recovered a loaded rifle and a large filleting knife after a search of the truck.

32-year-old Joseph Gunville, from Denare Beach, SK, is facing 19 charges including Kidnapping with Firearm, Robbery with Weapon, Robbery to Steal Firearm, Theft of a Vehicle, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police, Assault, Uttering Threats and 11 additional Criminal Code charges.

23-year-old Jeremy Dumas, from Flin Flon, is facing 17 charges including Kidnapping with Firearm, Robbery with Weapon, Robbery to Steal Firearm, Theft of a Vehicle, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police, Assault, Uttering Threats and 9 additional Criminal Code charges.

Gunville and Dumas were both remanded into custody

28-year-old Rozalynn Custer, from Denare Beach, SK, has been charged with Kidnapping with Firearm, Theft of a Vehicle, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm. She was later released on court-imposed conditions for court scheduled July 14 in Flin Flon.

RCMP continue to investigate.
