Three charged with weapons offences during traffic stops

Three females are facing weapons charges after police initiated traffic stops on Thursday, January 30, 2020.

Just before 12:30 pm officers spotted a stolen Ford F-150 pickup truck that was fishtailing in traffic. The pickup truck had been reported stolen.

As police attempted to stop the vehicle the female driver and two male passengers jumped out of the truck and took off on foot.

Officers captured the female but the males were able to evade officers.

A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded 12 gauge shotgun with ammunition. The serial number on the weapon had been tampered with.

Deirdre Ann MacDonald, 26 from MacGregor, Manitoba was detained in custody and has been charged for her alleged involvement with:

  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 X 2
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order X 3
  • Drive suspended/while disqualified
  • Display a number plate that does not match registration card
  • Drive Imprudently.

Later that night, around 9:30 pm, police stopped a vehicle on Selkirk Avenue that had expired insurance.

As officers approached a machete was spotted inside the vehicle. The driver and passenger were placed in custody.

When the vehicle was searched police found two more knives, a sword and an improvised firing device.

A 34-year-old female was charged for her alleged involvement with Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle and five counts of Possession of a Weapon.

29-year-old Corynn Alyssa Quesnel was charged for her alleged involvement with Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order, Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order X 5, Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Weapon x 5

The 34-year-old was released on a promise to appear. Quesnel was detained in custody.
