Three B.117 COVID-19 variant cases announced on Friday

92 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the province today. Two additional deaths reported due to the virus.

Those who died from COVID-19 are identified as:

  • a male in his 80s from the Winnipeg health region; and
  • a female in her 90s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the outbreak at Golden Links Lodge.

The five-day test positivity rate is currently 5.7 per cent provincially and 4.2 per cent in Winnipeg.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 31,235.

Today’s cases are from the following health regions:

  • two cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
  • 50 cases in the Northern health region;
  • three case in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
  • two cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region; and
  • 35 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

Public health officials confirmed three cases of the B.117 COVID-19 variant have been identified in Manitoba. The B.117 variant was first identified in the United Kingdom. All three cases are related to travel and all three have now recovered. The total number of variants of concern cases in the province is now four.

There are currently 1,169 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba with 29,187 people listed as recovered.

213 people are being treated in the hospital of which 80 are considered infectious. 27 people with the virus are in Intensive Care Units with 12 of them still considered infectious.

879 Manitobans have died since COVID-19 first arrived in the province. Due to a data correction, one death that had been reported earlier has been removed.

2,389 tests were completed yesterday. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 508,900 tests completed.
