Three Arrested in Transcona Package Theft Spree

A months-long investigation into a series of package thefts in Transcona has resulted in the arrest of three individuals, the Winnipeg Police Service announced. Dubbed “Project Thrifties,” the investigation was launched in November 2024 after numerous residents reported an increase in stolen deliveries.

Investigators identified a female suspect and several targeted properties. Between August and December 2024, the suspect is alleged to have stolen packages from porches across the Transcona area, with values ranging from $10 to $200.

The investigation uncovered two additional suspects connected to the thefts. One male suspect is alleged to have stolen a package in December, while a second female suspect is accused of shoplifting from a Nairn Avenue business in January.

All three suspects were apprehended without incident. Police confirmed the individuals were known to each other through the drug subculture and had links to both retail and porch parcel thefts. The suspects and victims were not known to one another, and no injuries were reported.

Melissa Marie Nolette, 35, of Winnipeg, faces seven counts of theft under $5,000, along with several other charges related to outstanding warrants and failing to comply with release orders for her alleged involvement. She has been detained in custody.

Kevin Jay Worme, 47, of Winnipeg, is charged for his alleged involvement with theft under $5,000 and was also arrested on an outstanding warrant. He has also been detained in custody.

A 35-year-old Winnipeg woman is also charged for her alleged involvement with theft under $5,000 and was released on an undertaking.

As part of the investigation, a problem residence on Larche Crescent, frequented by the suspects, was shut down.

Police believe there may be additional victims and are urging anyone who has experienced package theft to come forward. Reports can be made online, by calling the non-emergency line, or in person.

Police say that there are several things people can do to prevent future thefts, including using alternate delivery locations, requesting signature confirmation, signing up for delivery alerts, avoiding visible deliveries, and exploring safe pick-up options.
