In the early hours of May 19, 2024, Winnipegosis RCMP made a significant arrest during a routine traffic stop in Minegoziibe Anishinabe First Nation. The vehicle, carrying three occupants, was stopped for a routine check when officers noticed drug paraphernalia in plain sight.
Upon further inspection, officers discovered a cache of illicit substances and dangerous items. The haul included illicit cannabis, individually packaged crack cocaine, a sawed-off shotgun, a handgun, ammunition, black ski masks, and an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency.
The three occupants, identified as Damien Moosetail, 18, from Dauphin; a 16-year-old male from Duck Bay; and a 15-year-old male from Camperville, were immediately taken into custody. They have been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine, Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Selling, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possession of a Weapon Obtained by Crime, among other firearms offences.
All three individuals have been remanded in custody pending further investigation.
