A months-long investigation into drug trafficking in downtown Winnipeg culminated in three arrests and the seizure of drugs and cash on February 18, 2025. The Winnipeg Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit launched the investigation in February after receiving numerous community concerns.
Acting on those concerns, investigators, supported by the Tactical Support Team, East District and Downtown Community Support Units, K9, and the Drone Unit, executed search warrants at three locations: the 500 block of Elgin Avenue, and the 500 and 600 blocks of Ross Avenue.
The coordinated effort resulted in the arrest of three men. Two suspects, a 24-year-old and a 34-year-old, were apprehended in the 500 block of Elgin Avenue, while a 38-year-old man was arrested in the 600 block of Ross Avenue.
During the searches, police seized approximately $775 in Canadian currency, 41.75 grams of crack cocaine with an estimated street value of $3,340, and various drug paraphernalia.
Jeffrey Ducharme, 24, of Winnipeg, faces charges for his alleged involvement of possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine), possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and two counts of failing to comply with a condition of a release order. He was detained in custody.
Brent McCann, 34, of Winnipeg, is also charged for his alleged involvement with possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine), possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and two counts of failing to comply with a condition of a release order. He was also detained in custody.
Shane Morrissette, 38, of Winnipeg, has been charged for his alleged involvement with possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine) and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He was released on an undertaking as mandated by the criminal code.
