THREAT | SCHOOLS THREATENED BY ANONYMOUS FAX MESSAGE

Winnipeg Police are on heightened alert as anonymous faxes were sent to schools across Canada and into the United States on Wednesday morning.

Around 8:30 am on September 21, 2016, the Winnipeg School Division received a fax message that contained a threat to all schools within the division.

Police are being tight lipped about what the specific threat was but say they are working closely with the school division to ensure “all reasonable safety measures are being employed”.

Similar threats have been received by schools and school divisions in a number of Canadian provinces, including Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. There have also been similar threats in the U.S.

Although Police are treating the threat seriously and deploying resources to ensure the safety of staff and students they say early indications are that the threat is unfounded.
