Woman asking for help steals money and vehicles from homeowners

Winnipeg Police have arrested and charged a 22-year-old female in relation to two thefts that happened earlier this Spring.

Police say that on May 24 and May 27, 2018, Kayla Ivy Chaske knocked on the door of the homes and asked for help. When she was let inside she allegedly stole money and keys from the residence. On both occasions, she later allegedly came back and stole the homeowner’s vehicles

These incidents have prompted police to remind Winnipegers that you should never allow strangers into your home.

If someone claims to be from the city or a utility ask to see photo identification. If someone is looking for help police suggest you speak to them through a locked door. Police also say that if you feel unsafe or are suspicious of the person or situation call 911 and let the person know you are doing that.

Chaske was detained in custody and is facing charges of  Break & Enter, Theft Under $5,000, and Theft of Motor Vehicle.
