THEFT | FUGITIVES BRING MAYHEM TO BRANDON

It was like a scene out of a hollywood movie today as Brandon Police Service (BPS) officers take down gun thieves.

It all started around the noon hour as RCMP in White Butte, Saskatchewan contacted the BPS about a break-in that had occurred in White Butte earlier in the day. The culprits had broken into a business and stolen a number of handguns. RCMP were able to ping the cell of one of the suspects and it had shown that it was located near 17th St north and Parker Blvd. in Brandon. The suspects had been involved in a pursuit with RCMP earlier and were driving a dodge pickup with damage to the front end because it had rammed the cops chasing it.

BPS officers began looking for the car and around 1:45pm the cell indicated they were located at the Corral Centre shopping mall. Police found the truck and saw a male enter the vehicle the drive off through the parking lot. Police attempted to stop the truck but the driver rammed one of the BPS patrol units and took off onto 18th St. north with police in hot pursuit.

Trying his best to get away the fleeing criminal turned onto #1 Highway heading east. A spike belt was deployed and disabled the rear tire. Continuing his flight the fugitive turned back into the city on 1st St. North. The driver wound past the White Swan Trailer Court then headed west on Braecrest Drive.

Police discontinued the pursuit and followed from a distance as the driver turned south on 18th St. North at a much reduced speed due to the damage to the truck. The truck returned to the Corral Center where the driver stopped and picked up two other people. He then drove east on Kirkaldy Drive before driving into the ditch at Cater Drive.

BPS officers had to smash out the windows of the truck in order to take the suspects into custody because they refused to exit the vehicle on their own.  Three subjects were arrested at the scene, a 26 year old man, a 35 year old woman and a 15 year old male youth are in custody with charges to follow.
