Winnipeg police are investigating a suspicious death following the discovery of a deceased person at a fire scene in the early morning hours of April 27, 2023.
General patrol officers were alerted to a suspicious fire in the area of McDonald Avenue and Gomez Street at about 1:00 in the morning. They went to the scene, finding both an involved fire and the deceased person.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service members extinguished the fire, and the WPS Homicide Unit has assumed the investigation into what happened. An autopsy is pending.
