20 tenants were kicked out of their homes after the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service inspectors deemed the building unsafe.
The three-storey heritage apartment building at 181 Balmoral had a number of issues including no heat or hot water. It had been cited for multiple fire code violations. Tenants of the building were given eviction notices last Thursday, December 14, 2017.

Over the past month, Winnipeg police had been called out to the building more than thirty times to deal with break and enters, fights and weapons calls.
On Monday evening officers swept through the building to make sure no one was left inside then city crews began the process of boarding up the building to prevent squatters.
