Five teen were arrested and charged after breaking into a garage then taking off in a previously stolen vehicle.
Police say that just after 2:30 am Saturday morning, July 20, 2019, patrol officers, Air-1 and members of the K-9 unit responded to the report of a break and enter. The teens were seen breaking into a garage then checking out vehicles in the 100 block of Hillbrook Street.
Air-1 began tracking the suspects as they got into a vehicle and left the area.
Police say the stolen vehicle got stuck in a ditch near Jefferson Avenue and Melgund Road. Five people inside the vehicle jumped out and ran south through a field while Air-1 directed officers towards them.
One of the teens was seen throwing a knife away as he ran.
After a brief foot chase all five suspects were taken into custody and charged.
A 14-year-old, a 15-year-old and two 16-year-old youth were charged for their alleged involvement with Break Enter & Commit Place, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Theft Under $5000 (x3).
A third 16-year-old is facing charges for his alleged involvement with:
- Break Enter & Commit Place
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
- Theft Under $5000- Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment (x2)
- Possession of a Weapon
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
He was detained in custody.
