Four teens caught after Friday morning crime spree

Early Friday morning, September 20, 2019, police say they were alerted to four teens scoping out vehicles in the Silver Heights area of Winnipeg.

At one point one to the suspects pulled out a firearm and shot at an unoccupied vehicle after the four had been seen casing vehicles in the area. A WPS K-9 unit responded and captured a 17-year-old male suspect as he was trying to get away near Lodge Avenue and Rita Street.

Investigators learned that the four suspect had been involved in the crash of a stolen truck on Olive Street.

Just after 8:00 am the other three suspects attempted to carjack a 51-year-old female as she was getting out of her vehicle. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the woman and pulled the trigger but the gun did not fire. He then pulled out a can of bear spray and spray the vehicle owner. The teens fled the incident after the encounter without the woman’s vehicle.

A little over two hours later, around 10:30 am, Officers located the remaining suspects near Portage Avenue and the Perimeter Highway. All three were taken into custody. The K-9 unit searched the area the teens were arrested in and was able to located the gun that had been previously stolen during a break-in near Cartright, Manitoba.

The trio, a 14-year-old female, a 15-year-old female and a 17-year-old male, as well as the previously arrested teen are all facing charges for a number of theft-related and weapon charges.

All four were detained in custody.
