Three teens are facing robbery, assault and weapons charges in relation to robberies and bear spray attacks on Thursday, June 1, 2023.
Winnipeg Police say the teens were involved in a robbery of a retail store in the 1200 block of St. Mary’s Road. In that robbery the suspect confronted a 19-year-old employee, repeatedly deployed bear spay at him, then stole a cash register. The victim was medically cleared by paramedics.
Around 8:40 pm police located a 16-year-old male victim near St. Anne’s Road and Meadowood Drive who had been robbed and attacked with bear spray. Two other victims had also been attacked but left before police arrived. While dealing with the victim, bystanders pointed out the three suspects nearby running from the scene. Officers chased the suspects on foot.
While police were placing the suspect under arrest one of then fought with officers and threatened to kill them. A taser was depolyed and all three suspects were placed in custody. A can of bear spray and a knife were seized.
A 14-year-old male has been charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of Robbery, two counts of Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon, Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order.
A 15-year-old male is facing two counts Robbery and two counts of Assault with a Weapon for his alleged involvement.
A 17-year-old male has been charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of Robbery, two counts of Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon.
The 15-year-old was released on an Undertaking while the other two accused were detained in custody.
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate.
