Teen rescued from the frigid waters of the Burntwood River

A 17-year-old female was rescued from the freezing waters of the Burntwood River in Thompson.

Police say that they received a call just before 6;30 pm on October 26, 2021, that a female was in distress in the river near Miles Hart Bridge. When officers arrived they could hear the female in the water.

RCMP and Thompson Fire and Emergency Services deployed boats and were able to find the victim and pull her from the water. Police said at the time of her rescue she was struggling to stay afloat.

The female was transported to hospital for treatment.

Police say thieve the female was in the water for about 15 minutes.
