Early Monday morning Winnipeg police received a report that a male with a gun was at an Alexander Avenue home.
As police were arriving they saw a male and female leave the residence. The pair initially ignored instructions by officers but were still safely taken into custody. Police say that a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle lay at their feet and was seized.
Several other people were in the residence and as each left, they were stopped by police. A 20-year-old man was arrested upon leaving the house for an unrelated shooting on Sherbrook Street on September 29, 2022. A 13-year-old female who had been reported missing was found after leaving the residence.
Police say that further investigation discovered that the male who had left the house with the sawed-off rifle was wanted in connection to a carjacking on May 6, 2022 in the Daniel McIntyre area.
Police have charged a 17-year-old male for his alleged involvement with:
– Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
– Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
– Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
– Possession of a Weapon
– Robbery
He was detained in custody
