Teen facing charges after shooting at a moving car

Winnipeg police have a 15-year-old male in custody after he allegedly fired a handgun at a moving vehicle on Main Street.

According to police, On Friday evening, December 16, 2022, the teen had gone to a beer vendor in the 1600 block of Main Street with a group of others and while in the parking lot confronted an adult male who he did not know. During the confrontation, the teen pulled out a handgun. The adult male ran to a nearby car being driven by an adult female as the accused pointed the weapon at them. as the vehicle fled the suspect fired at them.

Police later found a car that had been hit by gunfire. No injuries were reported.

The next day (Saturday, Dec 17) around 9:30 pm a K-9 officer observed the suspect vehicle that had been involved in the incident. With help from the Tactical Support Team and General Patrol officers, a traffic stop was initiated near Notre Dame and Alverstone Street. Three people, including the 15-year-old allegedly involved in the shooting the day before, were taken into custody.

When officers searched the vehicle they found a loaded 9mm handgun with an auto sear. An auto-sear is used to convert the gun from semi-automatic to automatic. Police also found an over-capacity magazine. The serial number on the weapon had been obliterated. A search of the 15-year-old uncovered 23 pills believed to be percocet.

The 15-year-old has been charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Discharge a Firearm with Intent
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
  • Possession of Scheduled Substance – Percocet
  • two counts of Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order

An 18-year-old male and a 26-year-old female are facing charges for their alleged involvement of:

  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
  • Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations

The pair were released on Undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code
