A 19-year-old male from the Rm of Stuartburn is facing a number of weapons-related charges after he allegedly posted threats to social media on Friday night, November 29, 2019.
Police say they were tipped off that the former student of Shevenko School in Vita, Manitoba made threats of violence towards the school. Vita is about 115 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg.
Officers responded to the school immediately and placed it on lockdown. A basketball game was underway at the time.
Over the next couple of hours, investigators followed on tips and were able to locate the suspect around 10:00 pm. A weapon was also seized at the time of the suspect’s arrest.
Formal charges include Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon when knowing Possession Unauthorized and Uttering Threats.
The suspect was detained in custody.
