Teen dead after vehicle slams into semi-trailer

RCMP say that around 10:00 pm on Friday night, February 9, 2018, a two-vehicle collision claimed the life of a 17-year-old female.

The collision happened on Provincial Road 244 just south of Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba about 127 kilometres south-west of Winnipeg.

Police say that a vehicle travelling south, driven by the 17-year-old female crossed the centre line and collided with a northbound semi-trailer truck. The impact of the collision sent both vehicles into the ditch on the east side of the road.

The driver and passenger in the semi were not injured but the driver of the southbound vehicle was declared dead at the scene.

RCMP investigators say that speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the collision.

Provincial Raod 244 was closed for several hours after the collision.

RCMP continue to investigate.
