A 14-year-old male has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal stabbing on Long Plain First Nation.
The incident unfolded on February 24, 2025, at approximately 6:45 p.m., when a vehicle arrived at the Long Plain Detachment carrying a critically injured 26-year-old man from the community. MFNPS officers immediately provided medical assistance until paramedics arrived.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle had stopped at a residence within the First Nation to drop off a passenger. It was at this location that the 14-year-old suspect exited the home and confronted the victim, who remained seated in the vehicle. The confrontation stemmed from a dispute over alleged stolen property.
According to the MFNPS, the 14-year-old then entered the vehicle and stabbed the 26-year-old. The vehicle subsequently left the scene and drove directly to the detachment where officers attempted to save the man’s life. He was then transported to hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Police say the man’s death is being treated as a homicide.
Officers arrested the 14-year-old suspect on February 24, 2025, and held him in custody. The following day, February 25, 2025, he was formally charged with second-degree murder and remanded into custody.
The MFNPS is continuing its investigation with assistance from the RCMP Major Crime Services and RCMP Forensic Identification Services.
