Teen charged in stabbing of senior

Winnipeg Police Service has arrested and charged a 17-year-old male in connection to the stabbing of a 63-year-old man at what police describe as a multi-room residence in the first 100 block of Keewatin Street.

The incident happened around 4:20 am on Saturday, May 13, 2023. Officers found the the victim with upper body stab wounds. He was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

Members of the K-9 unit searched the area and quickly located the suspect and placed him into custody without incident. A knife was found in the suspects possession along with a small quantity of meth.

As the investigation unfolded by the Major Crimes Unit it was learned that the suspect crawled through a window and stabbed the victim without provocation. He then fled before officers arrived on the scene.

Police say they believe the incident was random and the suspect and victim were not know to each other.

The 17-year-old accused has been charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Break, Enter & Commit – Dwelling House
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine

Police say that the accused was released on a Undertaking and an Appearance Notice as required by the Criminal Code.
