Teen charged in incident that led up to police-involved shooting

Winnipeg Police have laid charges against a 16-year-old male for his alleged involvement in an armed robbery attempt on Adsum Drive early Saturday morning, April 18, 2020.

The youth was with a second 22-year-old male who was shot and killed by police as part of the same incident. The 22-year-old was identified by family members as Stewart Kevin Andrews.

The officer-involved shooting is currently under investigation bt the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba.

The 16-year-old is facing the following charges:

  •  Robbery
  • Use of Imitation Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
  • Possession of a Weapon- Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence (x2)

The teen was detained in custody.
