Teen charged after assault on Brandon peace officers

Brandon police have charged an 18-year-old male with assaulting peace officers after he became combative in the Brandon police holding cells.

Police say that the teen was being held without charges after his mother called 911 to report that her sons were fighting and her daughter had been injured on Friday, August 25, 2023. The male had been taken into custody until the situation calmed enough for everyone’s safety and he could then be released.

While being escorted to the bathroom by a cell security officer the male refused to return to his cell. A BPS officer was able to de-escalate the situation and the male agreed to return to his cell but as the officer and the suspect reached the cell door the male began a physical confrontation. It took two cell security officers and several police officers to control the suspect, according to police.

As a result of the suspect’s alleged actions he is now facing three charges of assaulting a peace officer and one count of resisting arrest.
