RCMP has arrested a 16-year-old teen in connection to the death of Tamara Benoit.
Benoit had been reported missing to Winnipeg Police on July 10, 2020. She had last been seen in Portage la Prairie and Long Plain First Nation.
Benoit’s remains were located on September 3, 2020 near Cottonwood Drive in Portage la Prairie.
An investigation by RCMP, Manitoba First Nations Police Service and Winnipeg Police Service identified two suspects. On January 5, 2021, officers arrested a 15-year-old Winnipeg male and 37-year-old Ryan Peters from Long Plain First Nation.
Peters was charged for his alleged involvement with Second Degree Murder. The 15-year-old was released without charges.
Two days later police arrested another suspect. 36-year-old Tovahs Jeanine Peters was charged for her alleged involvement with Second Degree Murder and Accessory After the Fact to Murder.
The investigation continued and on March 16, 2021, officers re-arrested the male youth who is now 16-years-old. He has been charged for his alleged involvement with Second Degree Murder. He was detained in custody.
Police say the investigation continues.
