High school teacher charged with sexual assault

A teacher from University of Winnipeg Collegiate was arrested on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 in connection sexual assaults on two students between 2016 and 2018.

Police say they first learned of the sexual assaults in January 2019 and during the investigation identified two female victims. The victims were under 18 at the time of the initial sexual contact.

Police say both were students of the suspect.

Members of the Sex Crimes Unit say the accused had an inappropriate relationship with the students and he sexually assaulted both females. One of the victims was 16 the other 18 at the time of the assault that happened between 2016 and 2018.

The suspect was out of the country when police issued a warrant in June 2019 but he was taken into custody on July 10, 2019 after his return to Winnipeg.

Ishmael Mustapha, 46 has been charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of Sexual Assault and Sexual Exploitation.

Mustapha has been released on a recognizance.
