Winnipeg’s Tactical Emergency Medical Support (TEMS) paramedics have just completed training to provide emergency pre-hospital medical care for the Winnipeg Police Service K-9 Unit.
Paramedics on the TEMS team trained to treat K-9s through consultations with the Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), Bridgwater Veterinary Hospital, and Pembina Veterinary Hospital.
Police say that having trained paramedics that can care for injured police service dogs has “created peace of mind for K-9 Unit handlers to know that medical aid is close-by and available prior to, and en route, to a veterinary care facility in the event a dog is injured.”
