Bomb unit blows up package
On Friday May 12, 2017 Winnipeg Police shut down Portage Avenue between Fort Street and Smith Street in both directions after they received a report of a suspicious package left on the street.
The incident started around 12:30 pm at the corner of Garry and Portage. The vital statistics office was evacuated as a precaution because the incident was happening right outside their door.
The bomb unit was called in and around 3:20 pm they destroyed the package and then used a robot to inspect the remains.
Police gave the all clear just after 4:00pm
