Suspicious item found in Montrose Park on Saturday afternoon

Winnipeg Police Service responded to Montrose Park on Saturday afternoon, July 11, 2020, for the report of a suspicious item.

Most of the northern end of the park along Fleet Avenue, including a playground, was taped off by police as they investigated.

One officer on the scene told News 4 that the item was an “improvised device” and had been removed by officers with the bomb unit.

Officers began removing the yellow police tape surrounding the area at about 2:40 pm signalling the area was clear.

Police have yet to provide official details of the event.
