Suspect wanted in stabbing investigation arrested

Winnipeg Police Service has arrested and charged the suspect wanted in the November 29, 2023, stabbing of 59-year-old female employee during a commercial robbery.

The suspect was identified by officers and on December 1, 2023, he was taken into custody without incident, charged and released on an Undertaking.

According to police, officers continued to investigate and were able to link the suspect to a second violent commercial robbery on November 19, 2023, at a retail business in the 300 block of Donald Street. During the incident, the suspect and a second male went to the business with a hammer and an axe. The security guard at the business tried to intervene but was assaulted. He did not sustain any injuries. The suspect fled on foot with stolen items before police arrived.

On December 2, 2023, officers arrested the suspect a second time and laid additional charges for the earlier incident.

18-year-old Jayden Smith has been charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Robbery x 2
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon
