Suspect wanted in attempted child abduction

Portage la Praire RCMP investigating an attempted child abduction that happened around 9:15 am on August 17, 2021, its the back lane on 10th Street NW.

Police say the girl was approached from behind by a male who grabbed her and asked if she wanted to go home with him. The girl bit the abductor and was able to break free. The girl then ran home and police were called. The victim did not suffer any physical injuries.

The male suspect was last seen running down the backplane towards Lorne Avenue.

Officers conducted a search of the are but were unable to find the male.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male with an average build, approximately 5’3”, 40-years-of-age with either blue or green eyes. He has short white hair with a bald spot and a long white beard. He was wearing a black colored zip-up hoodie with grey sweats and reddish colored shoes.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or any area resident on 10th Street NW who may have video surveillance in the back lane is asked to call RCMP at 204-857-4445.
