Man wanted in connection to attack on dog

Winnipeg Police have identified a 20-year-old male who attacked a dog at the end of August 2018.

Around 9:15 pm on August 31st a group of people were in the back lane on Stella Avenue. A dog barked at the group and one of the males circled around on his bike, Put on a mask to hide his identitythen pulled out a large knife and stabbed the Bullmastiff in the face. The suspect then continued on his way with the group of people he was with.

The attack and the identity of the suspect were captured on surveillance video.

The dog known as Cooter was badly wounded in the attack. The stab wound went through his nose down to his teeth. The seven-year-old family pet underwent emergency surgery to repair the damage and is expected to recover. Owner Mark Eskow say that the surgery cost approximately $1,000.

Police have identified the suspect as Alex Arumeul Genaille a 20-year-old male from Winnipeg.

He is described by police as  Indigenous in appearance, 5’6” tall, weighing approximately 172 lbs and has a medium build. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Genaille is facing charges for his alleged involvement of Possession of a Weapon, Causing Unnecessary Suffering to an Animal and Disguise with intent.

Police are asking anyone who knows where Genaille is to contact them at 204-986-6219 or call Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
