Suspect points gun at off-duty officer

UPDATED

An off-duty Winnipeg Police Service officer is lucky to be uninjured after he was confronted by an armed male as he approached his personal vehicle on Garry Street just after 2:30 am on Sunday MArch 17, 2019.

The officer was approaching his vehicle when he was approached by a male who began talking to the officer. After a short conversation the officer got into his vehicle and as he began to drive away he saw the suspect pull a gun and point it at him. The officer left the area and called 911.

According to the Winnipeg Police Service no shots were fired.

Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit located a male who matches the suspect’s description on Monday afternoon, March 18, 2019, and took him into custody.

When police searched the suspect he was in possession in individually packaged 6.6 gram baggies containing cocaine worth about $600 on the street. He also had a 9mm bullet on his person.

Mitchell Dean Beardy, 38 has been charged with Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer, Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking as well as several firearm offences for his alleged involvement.
