Suspect jumps in river to flee police, comes back due to cold water

Cold water stops fleeing suspect say Brandon Police.

Early Sunday morning, September 23, 2018, police checked a Saskatchewan vehicle near Westaway Bay and Pacific Avenue and learned that it had been stolen a few days earlier from Indian Head Sask.

As officers tried to pull the vehicle over it refused to stop and led officers on a short pursuit.

The suspects became stuck on 5th Street North on the river dike.

Police captured the passenger right away but the driver jumped into the river and tried to swim across to avoid arrest. Part way across the suspect returned to the shore he left from due to the cold water. He was cold, wet and taken into custody.

A male youth and a 19-year-old male from Nipawin, Saskatchewan have been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Flight from Police.
