A 38-year-old man wanted on a Canada-Wide Warrant is in hospital after he attempted to flee from Winnipeg Police Service officers on Saturday morning, October 21, 2023.
According to Police officers had gone to a community correctional facility on Main Street to apprehend the man on the strength of the warrant. Initially the suspect was cooperative and compliant with officers but after he completed a phone calle to a family member that officers had allowed him to make he suddenly jumped out of the second-floor window in his room. The suspect was seriously injured from the fall and taken to hospital in unstable condition. He has since been upgraded to stable.
Due to the seriousness of the injuries, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) was notified. The IIU has taken over the investigation as per their mandate.
