Suspect jumps from second floor to evade police, fractures ankle

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is looking into a case where a suspect was injured during his arrest.

According to the IIU Winnipeg Police had gone to a suspects home on Young Street around 6:30 pm on Friday July 23, 2021, to serve arrest warrants. When officers arrived the suspect jumped from a second floor window in an attempt to evade arrest. Upon landing the suspect injured himself and was taken into custody. He was taken to hospital where medical staff determined he had a fractured ankle

As a broken ankle is considered a serious injury under regulations the IIU is mandated to investigate.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has video footage is asked to contact the IIU at 1-844-667-6060.
