Winnipeg Police are investigating an incident that ended in a collision on Portage Avenue early Sunday morning, December 27, 2020.
Around 12:30 am two vehicles were involved in a collision the intersection of Portage Avenue and Sherbrook Street. Multiple marked police units were immediately on the scene and boxed in one of the trucks involved in the collision as Air-1 circled above.
Officers forcibly pulled the driver out of the truck. An officer can be heard clearly yelling ‘Drop the knife’ in a video submitted to News 4 by a witness to the incident. The witness did not want to be identified. The suspect can then be heard yelling as a taser was apparently used to subdue him.
Paramedics checked the male over and transported him to hospital in stable condition according to police.
Police have not said what led up to the collision but the witness who submitted the video said the police were chasing the truck at the time of the collision.
Westbound Portage at Sherbrook Street reopened to traffic just before 10:30 am.
