Suspect in the killing of Tristan Asham arrested and charged

The suspect in a November 5,2022, homicide has been arrested and charged.

Police had been called to the 200 block of McDermot Avenue for reports of gunshots when they found 21-year-old Tristan James Raynard Asham suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was taken to hospital in critical condition but soon died from his injuries.

The investigation uncovered that two groups were involved in a confrontation that escalated to a fight. Police say that the suspect pulled out a gun and shot Asham.

Investigators identified a suspect in the case and learned he had fled to British Columbia following the shooting. Police were able to identify a residence in Langly B.C. where the suspect was hiding and obtained an arrest warrant.

On June 22, 2023, The British Columbia Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit arrested the suspect and turned him over to investigators from the homicide unit. He was flown back to Winnipeg.

Shiv Austin Harper, 20, was charged for his alleged involvement with Second Degree Murder and Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon Contrary to Prohibition Order. He was also processed on two outstanding warrants.

Harper remains in custody.

The investigation continues.
