Suspect in fatal hit and run arrested and charged

After an investigation that lasted more than seven months members of Winnipeg Police Service Traffic Division have arrested the driver of a truck that struck and killed a pedestrian.

On August 6, 2021, a female in her 80s was hit by a 5-ton truck while she was crossing the intersection at Smith Street and Broadway. The truck did not stop after the collision. The woman was taken to hospital in critical condition but died from her injuries two days later.

On February 24, 2022, the 39-year-old male driver was arrested and charged for his alleged involvement.

He has been charged with Drive Carelessly Cause Death.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and has not been identified by police.
