Under the ‘B’… BUSTED!

Two armed suspects are in custody after a failed attempt to rob the Portuguese cultural centre during a bingo game.

Around 7:30 pm on October 31, 2019, an adult female and a male teen entered the packed club and sprayed a woman in her 70s with an unknown substance. The female robber tried to take off with the cash tray but several patrons intervened causing the suspect to drop the tray.

The male accomplice was restrained and held for police. The female had a firearm with her as she tried to flee the premises but she was disarmed prior to making her escape.

When officers arrived on scene they arrested a 17-year-old male and seized a loaded .22 calibre rifle.

The female eventually surrendered herself to police.

The 38-year-old woman is facing charges for her alleged involvement including Armed Robbery using a Restricted Weapon, Use Firearm during the Commission of an Offence, Careless Use of Firearm, Carry Concealed Weapon, Possess Loaded Restricted Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Weapon and Utter Threats.

The 17-year-old male is facing charges of Fail to Comply with Sentence Conditions (x3), Armed Robbery Using Firearm, Assault with a Weapon, Possess Weapon, Use Firearm During Commission of an Offence, Carry Concealed Weapon, Careless Use of Firearm, Unauthorized use of a Restricted Weapon, Possess Prohibited Weapon.

Both suspects were detained in custody.
