A 41-year-old man has been arrested and charged after he attempted to evade capture in the RM of Renolds.
RCMP responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle on March 8, 2023, on Birch River Road south of Highway 507 in the rural municipality. Police say that the vehicle was believed to be associated with a series of property break-ins that happened between March 5-8.
Officers found the vehicle and stopped it but the driver fled on foot into a nearby densely forested area.
RCMP contained the area and a search was conducted by a K-9 unit and a remotely piloted aircraft.
The suspect was soon found about two kilometres from where his vehicle was stopped. Officers placed the suspect into custody and spent the next 90 minutes walking him back to their vehicles due to the dense forest.
Michael John Shindruk Has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Break and Enter x 7
- Possession of Break-in Instruments
- Mischief
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- Fail to Comply with Probation x 3
- Resist Arrest
He was detained in custody.
