An investigation is underway after an adult female was killed by a vehicle fleeing police.
On Monday October 4, 2021, officers had made a traffic stop on a vehicle on Provencher Boulevard. During the sop the vehicle suddenly sped away from the stop eventually losing control, jumping the median and colliding with a westbound vehicle.
The male driver then attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers.
The female driver of the other vehicle died from her injuries.
Members of the WPS Homicide Unit continued the investigation.
Winnipeg Police notified the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba and they have taken over responsibility for the investigation.
31-year-old James Joseph Wieler from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death, Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death while Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or Combination of Both, Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer and Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited Pursuant to Federal or Provincial Act.
